Surface and TIN
Why does my imported surface appear in the wrong location?
Symptoms
- An imported surface sits far from the points or alignment it should align with.
- The map zooms out a long way after import.
Likely causes
- The source file is in a different coordinate system from the project. ARKAK applies an affine source-to-project transform, but performs no datum or grid transformation.
- The file uses a different axis convention or unit from the project.
- The import used the wrong column mapping, so northing and easting were exchanged.
Step-by-step checks
- Compare a known coordinate in the source file with the same point in the project.
- Confirm the project's units match the file's units.
- For delimited files, re-open the import preview and confirm the column mapping.
- Confirm the source file was exported on the project's own grid.
Recommended solution
Reproject the source data to the project's coordinate framework in your office software before importing, then re-import. ARKAK will not reproject between datums, and deliberately does not guess.
- Applies to
- All ARKAK versions.
