Why are my units incorrect?
Symptoms
- Elevations or distances are out by a factor of roughly 3.28, or of 0.3048.
- Volumes are out by a large, consistent factor.
Likely causes
- The project was created with different units from the imported data.
- The source file's units were not what the exporting software reported.
Step-by-step checks
- Open the project settings and confirm the project's units.
- Check a known distance in the project against the same distance in the source data.
Recommended solution
Set the project's units correctly before importing data. Where data has already been imported under the wrong assumption, re-import into a correctly configured project rather than scaling values in place — scaling after the fact leaves derived records inconsistent with their inputs.
